Completion Date | October, 2014
Woods is a service organization that strives to advance the quality of life and standard of care for individuals with disabilities. The campus, which consists of both service facilities and residences, is over 100 years old. The Cedarwood Residence was constructed in 1981, and can house up to 16 residents. The residents wished for a more spacious living area, with a greater feeling of openness. Walls were removed to create a large, open plan living and dining area adjacent to the entry.
An addition was added to one side of Cedarwood, creating 1,250 SF of additional storage areas, staff space, and living/activity space. The living space is light-filled and features tall ceilings open to an upper dormer. The activity space includes an area for residents to video conference with family members from around the world. Cedarwood received finish upgrades, accessibility upgrades (included re-grading and the addition of automatic doors), and stormwater management upgrades through a reconstructed patio space with an automatic awning. The project was privately funded by the family of a Cedarwood resident.
